Seven Troop Customer Reviews
:- 5.0 out of 5 stars from ding174 -- From the heart of a true warrior : After reading two of my favorite books on modern war fare Bravo Two Zero and Immediate Action, the author strikes very close to home with Seven Troop. In this he delves as much as he can understand and reveal without passing judgement, on how war and killing affects the hearts and minds and even the souls of Britain’s most elite and hardened(or so one would think) warriors. - 5.0 out of 5 stars from manstein -- a more in depth look of SAS experience : I read McNab's Immediate Action and Bravo 2 Zero and was captivated by both of them. Troop Seven is a more descriptive account of how it feels to be a member of the SAS from being the inexperienced new guy among others who have participated in legendary SAS operations, to being a confident and capable operator in his own right. Included is the training and operations that made him experienced. ( Reviewed in the United States on May 25, 2014 )
- 4.0 out of 5 stars from E.C. Norton -- TRAINING FOR THE DARK SIDE : Those in the know about world's special forces know the UK's s Special Air Service. The regiment's name sounds like a fast-delivery outfit, and it is that, when fast, lethal reaction and destruction are needed in the dangerous corners of the world. SAS are on call to do the dirty work. rescuing hostages, killing terrorists, blowing up things. They are drawn from the regular services, and cross-trained in variety of military specialties. This autobiography covers that transition from the parade-ground army life, to stealth jungle-desert-urban warfare, when the SAS arrives in camouflage of one kind or another, kills and departs without bands playing. SAS success in WWII and thereafter spawned other such regiments in other Western nations, the on-call all-purpose response to war in the shadows. Seven Troop tells how it's done. - 5.0 out of 5 stars from Dave Monds -- The sad reality of the elite warrior : This book by McNab took a bit of warming up to but it is brilliantly written and tells a sorrowful story. McNab portrays his characters with great economy but they leave an indelible impression. It’s a heart breaking story, these gents were all hero’s who deserved better. The humanity of this book is overwhelming. ( Reviewed in the United States on December 8, 2019 )
- 5.0 out of 5 stars from Tom Graham, Clarkston, MI -- Great book, sad story : Really enjoyed book, McNab is an good writer and supplies many details often left out in other war memoirs. His book on the Iraq mission is also excellent, but brutal. ( Reviewed in the United States on December 13, 2020 )
- 5.0 out of 5 stars from Randall L. Spence -- Who Dares Wins... : Mr. McNab hits the nail on the head with this book. It's not always "fun and games", getting tuned up for your mission. If it goes right, everybody comes home and only the bad guys die. Unfortunately, not everyone reads the same rulebook. Too many times, it's "Adjust, Adapt and Overcome!" This book certainly underscores that attitude. Great read for anyone interested in this genre. Looking forward to next book. ( Reviewed in the United States on July 9, 2017 )
- 5.0 out of 5 stars from RR -- Sierra Hotel... : Seven Troop is yet another well written account of SAS actions on a much more personal scale, literally "a day in the life" thereof. Mr. McNab reminds us that not all the worlds bad neighborhoods are in Iraq or Afghanistan. Having hunted Scuds alongside his B Sq bros in 2003, the SAS mission, devotion to duty and combat effectiveness are unheralded. This book is no exception. Highly recommended. - 5.0 out of 5 stars from Mike Thompson -- Incredible career and candid writing : I've read all of Andy McNab' s books now. I don't know how this one passed me by. It was an excellent insight into his career in the SAS and the comradery of the military. Such a shame that some of the bravest most hardened soldiers in the world fin themselves succumbing to the struggles of PTSD because of the lack of awareness to it. This certainly puts it to the front of the mind. ( Reviewed in the United States on August 20, 2016 )
- 5.0 out of 5 stars from A. Mellor -- Reflections of an SAS soldier - speed, aggression, surprise! : Having just read 3 books based on 9/11 and the US Marines, and as an Army wife of 43 years, and an ex-nurse, I was interested to hear a British soldier’s matter of fact point of view about Gulf War Syndrome and PTSD. (I’m also a friend of the RAF ‘shrink’ McNab mentions!) Both US and British military authors highlight the importance of having absolute trust in their united ‘brothers in arms’. - 5.0 out of 5 stars from Nigel Heaton -- Great book, many real life revelations. : I really enjoyed this book, which I would describe as a thorough account of the work of the Regiment and the effects it had on Andy and his comrades. ( Reviewed in the United Kingdom on October 28, 2021 )
- 5.0 out of 5 stars from MrBigglesworth -- Fantastic. Authentic. Couldn't put it down. : This is my absolute favourite McNab book. ( Reviewed in the United Kingdom on April 10, 2014 )
- 5.0 out of 5 stars from rakeem18 -- Top soldier. Top book. : McNab’s strength is writing about stuff he knows everything about this life. ( Reviewed in the United Kingdom on February 27, 2019 )
- 4.0 out of 5 stars from Nathan -- A reflective McNab : I own McNab's non fiction books as well as Frank Collins book. This book included much of what has already been published. Having said that I enjoyed the book, which I found flowed well. In my opinion McNab has had time to reflect on his time in the regiment and how some of his mates actions and experiences effected their lives once they got out. It wasn't a book about being gong ho and describing jobs in detail. It was rather a book that tried to analyse and seek to understand the more psychology aspects of being in the SAS i.e. the need to belong, thinking yourself as a somebody with a special skill, only to come out and realise life is so much different in civvy street. As a Christian I was interested on how Frank Collins impacted McNab and those guys in his troop. I can see how McNab struggles with Christianity from what experience he has.
